SYDNEY, Australia — 10 August 2026 — Australian online department store Simple Deals has published the Australian Furniture Price Index 2026, a public dataset revealing the median prices Australians pay for furniture online. Drawn from analysis of 30,124 live products stocked across warehouses in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, the index is the first freely available benchmark of its kind for Australian furniture buyers.
The data shows the median online price for a sofa or lounge is $542, a queen mattress $272, and a bed frame $270. A chest of drawers or tallboy carries a median of $180, while a dining table sits at $309. For the middle half of products in each category, sofas typically range from $339 to $842 and mattresses from $168 to $444.
"Furniture is one of the few big household purchases with no published price benchmark, so people genuinely don't know if they're getting a fair deal. We sit on pricing data for tens of thousands of products, so we decided to publish it. If it helps a family furnishing a first home know what a mattress should cost, that's worth more to us than keeping it to ourselves."
— Joozar Ally, GM Marketing, Simple Deals
The index arrives as cost-of-living pressure pushes more Australians toward value-segment and online furniture retailers, which typically price well below traditional showroom brands. Simple Deals notes the figures reflect import-direct online furniture rather than boutique or designer retail, where the same categories often cost two to five times more.
Key findings from the Australian Furniture Price Index 2026:
● The median online sofa or lounge costs $542, with most falling between $339 and $842.
● A queen mattress has a median price of $272; bed frames sit at a median of $270.
● Bedroom storage is the most affordable category — a bedside table has a median of just $102.
● Outdoor dining settings are among the highest-value items, with a median of $485.
● Prices start well below the median: bed frames from $81, mattresses from $60, bedside tables from $35.
The full index, covering 20 furniture categories with starting prices, medians and typical ranges, is published and free to cite at simpledeals.com.au. The company says it will refresh the index quarterly against its live catalogue.
