Netanyahu Security Cabinet Discusses Possibility of Renewed War with Iran

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his security cabinet on Monday to examine the possibility of renewed hostilities with Iran, according to reports citing Hebrew media.

An Israel newspaper reported that the meeting followed a similar discussion held a day earlier, after Netanyahu spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump to coordinate what was described as the “next step” regarding Iran.

The outlet also cited a source familiar with US deliberations as saying that a new American strike on Iran was viewed as “not a question of if, but when.”

According to the same source, any potential operation under consideration would differ from earlier actions and could target locations previously avoided in earlier strikes.

The newspaper further quoted unnamed Israeli security officials as saying that preparations had already been made for the possibility of another round of confrontation with Iran.

Tensions in the region have remained high since US and Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, which triggered retaliatory responses from Tehran and disruptions in maritime activity in the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire was later implemented on April 8 following mediation efforts, though subsequent talks held in Islamabad did not produce a lasting agreement. The truce was later extended by Trump without a fixed end date.
