Trump Signals Hard Line on Iran Nuclear Talks

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said he is “not open to anything right now” regarding nuclear negotiations with Iran, signaling a pause in engagement after previously suggesting openness to a long-term freeze on uranium enrichment.

In brief remarks to the New York Post, Trump said, “I can’t really talk to you about it. Too many things are happening,” while indicating that Iran is aware of what may come next in the evolving situation.

He added that Tehran has a strong incentive to reach an agreement, saying, “they want to make a deal more than ever, because they know we're — what's going to be happening soon,” without providing further detail.

When asked about claims that Iran may be attempting to delay negotiations over both the nuclear file and maritime tensions, Trump said he had not seen such reports. He also described the process as ongoing bargaining, stating, “It’s a negotiation. I don’t want to be stupid.”

At the same time, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said talks with Washington are still taking place indirectly through Pakistani mediation.

The broader standoff between the US and Iran has continued to intensify following earlier military strikes and retaliatory actions in the region, alongside intermittent ceasefire arrangements that have not yet produced a durable political settlement.
