Provided by AGPIn a statement released to mark the 78th anniversary of the Nakba — the term Palestinians use to refer to the events surrounding Israel’s establishment in 1948 — the bureau said approximately 8.1 million Palestinians are living abroad.
According to the statement, more than two million Palestinians have been internally displaced across Gaza and the occupied West Bank due to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and the continued expansion of settlements.
The bureau said nearly two million of the approximately 2.2 million residents who were living in Gaza before the war have been forced from their homes. Many are now staying in temporary shelters, tents and school buildings.
It also noted that ongoing Israeli military operations in the northern West Bank have displaced about 40,000 Palestinians from refugee camps in the area.
As stated by reports, settlement construction in the West Bank continues to grow. By the end of 2025, the number of Israeli settlements and military-related sites had reached 645, including 151 settlements, 350 settlement outposts and 144 additional locations.
Official data further indicated that the Israeli settler population in the West Bank stood at roughly 778,567 by the end of 2024, with 42.8% of them living in occupied East Jerusalem.
