UN Raises Alarm Over Civilian Impact in Lebanon Amid Strikes, Evacuation

(MENAFN) The United Nations expressed concern Wednesday over the worsening humanitarian situation in Lebanon, pointing to fresh evacuation warnings, ongoing air raids, and increasing civilian casualties, especially in the country’s south.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters that the organization is carefully following developments after reports emerged that Israeli authorities issued new evacuation orders covering dozens of locations across Lebanon.

"We've seen the reports of newly issued evacuation orders by the Israeli authorities for dozens of Lebanese areas,” said Dujarric.

“I can tell you that we know with concern these displacement orders and airstrikes against Lebanese towns targeting areas both south of the Litani River and far beyond it.”

Earlier Wednesday, the Israeli military reportedly instructed residents in 12 southern Lebanese villages to leave their homes immediately ahead of anticipated attacks.

Dujarric repeated the UN’s call for full respect for international humanitarian law, emphasizing that civilians and civilian infrastructure must remain protected under all circumstances.

Referring to information from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, he said continued strikes — particularly in southern Lebanon — are contributing to a steadily increasing number of deaths.

His comments followed Israeli drone and air attacks in southern and eastern Lebanon that reportedly killed 16 people and injured 21 others, including paramedics, while also damaging a school, according to reports. The incidents were described as the latest breach of the ceasefire.
