Twelve People Get Killed in Colombia on Highway

(MENAFN) At least 12 people were killed and more than a dozen others injured after a powerful roadside explosion struck a bus and several vehicles on Colombia’s Pan-American Highway on Saturday, according to reports.

The blast occurred in the El Tunel area of Cajibio in the Cauca region, tearing through a key transport route and leaving a large crater in the roadway. Debris from the explosion was scattered across the highway, and multiple vehicles were heavily damaged.

Footage from the scene showed a bus destroyed by the blast, with its engine reportedly thrown into another nearby vehicle due to the force of the explosion.

Initial reports placed the death toll at seven, with at least 17 injured, but later updates indicated that several of the wounded died from their injuries, raising the total fatalities to 12. Most of the victims were reported to be civilians, including Indigenous passengers traveling on the bus.
