89-Year-Old Suspect Injures Five in Athens Twin Shootings
The violence began at a social insurance office run by EFKA, where the elderly man allegedly entered the premises and made his way to the fourth floor before discharging a shotgun, wounding a staff member enrolled in a state employment scheme. Authorities described the victim's leg injuries as minor, and he was transported to hospital in stable, non-life-threatening condition.
Within a short time, the suspect allegedly boarded a taxi to his second target — the Athens Court of Appeal in Loukareos — where he again ascended to the fourth floor and opened fire, injuring four additional individuals. All four sustained minor wounds, according to authorities.
In a move that deepened the mystery surrounding his motive, the suspect abandoned his weapon at the scene of the second attack before slipping away undetected. A state broadcaster reported on the sequence of events as they unfolded across the capital.
Greek police have since mobilized a large-scale operation to track down the suspect, whose whereabouts remain unknown. No motive has been officially confirmed as the investigation continues.
