US Warns of Sanctions Over Business with Sanctioned Iranian Airlines

(MENAFN) US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has issued a warning that individuals and entities engaging with sanctioned Iranian airlines could be subject to US sanctions.

In a statement posted on the US social media platform X on Monday, Bessent said that conducting business with such airlines “risks exposure to US sanctions.”

He urged foreign governments to take what he described as “all actions necessary” to prevent companies within their jurisdictions from providing services to the targeted aircraft. These services include jet fuel supply, in-flight catering, landing fees, and maintenance support.

Bessent also said the Treasury Department would continue its “maximum pressure” approach toward Iran as part of what he referred to as the “Economic Fury” policy. He added that the department would not hesitate to take action against third parties that facilitate or directly engage in transactions with Iranian-linked entities.
