Congo’s Premier Resigns

(MENAFN) The Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo, Anatole Collinet Makosso, has submitted his resignation along with that of his Cabinet to the president, according to an official statement released Sunday. This development clears the path for establishing a new governmental lineup.

This decision follows shortly after President Denis Sassou Nguesso was sworn in for a fifth term, succeeding his victory in the March 15 elections.

The statement clarified that until a new administration is appointed, the departing ministers will continue handling routine governmental responsibilities to ensure continuity.

Makosso, who took office in 2021, “expressed all his gratitude to the Head of State for the trust he has enjoyed during the exercise of his functions and indicated that he remains at the disposal of the President of the Republic.”

At his inauguration ceremony last week, Nguesso pledged to “contribute to resolution of conflicts that undermine the African continent.”
