Fidan to Partake in High-Level Riyadh Talks on Regional Tensions
According to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources, the Saudi-hosted meeting will include representatives from Azerbaijan, Bahrain, the UAE, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Pakistan, Syria, and Jordan.
The discussions come as instability in the region has sharply intensified following the joint US-Israeli offensive on Iran that began on February 28, coupled with Tehran’s retaliatory strikes across multiple countries.
Focus on diplomacy and containment
Fidan is expected to emphasize the importance of ending the conflict through diplomatic and peaceful means, warning that failure to do so could inflict long-term and irreversible damage on inter-state relations throughout the region. He is also likely to stress that recent attacks targeting Gulf countries are unacceptable and pose serious risks to regional stability, urging restraint to prevent further escalation.
The minister is expected to call on regional actors to avoid being drawn into the fighting and highlight that a balanced, cautious approach is critical to preventing a wider war.
Regional ownership and Türkiye’s role
During the meeting, Fidan is anticipated to underscore the increasing significance of “regional ownership” in crisis resolution, asserting that solutions to regional challenges should be driven by local actors. He will also reaffirm Türkiye’s readiness to contribute to diplomatic initiatives aimed at restoring stability and lowering tensions.
