China Urges for Truce Amid US-Israel-Iran War

(MENAFN) China on Monday urged a ceasefire and voiced “deep concern” over the spillover of conflict following US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, which prompted Iranian retaliatory strikes against US assets in the Gulf.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told reporters that the strikes were conducted without UN Security Council authorization, violating international law. She emphasized that China is concerned about the conflict affecting neighboring countries and stressed that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Gulf states must be respected.

Mao noted that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was among those killed in the US-Israeli strikes on Saturday. She called on all parties to halt military actions to prevent further escalation.

China confirmed it was not notified in advance of the US-led strikes and dismissed reports suggesting Beijing and Tehran were close to a missile deal. Mao added that China has fulfilled its international obligations and opposed “malicious hype,” urging efforts to ease tensions.

The ongoing conflict has led to the evacuation of more than 3,000 Chinese citizens from Iran.
