China Warns Japan Against Renewed Militaristic Direction

(MENAFN) China on Friday asserted that both Chinese citizens and the broader international community "will not allow" Japan to "go back to the path of militarism, violate its commitment to peaceful development and disrupt post war international order."

During a routine media briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning emphasized that "such attempts will only end in failure."

Mao recalled that following World War II, Japan’s duties as a defeated nation mandated that it be "completely disarmed and not to maintain such industries as it would enable the country to rearm for war."

She noted, however, that in recent years Japan has "kept easing the restrictions and seeking military buildup," boosting its defense expenditure "for 13 consecutive years" and lifting the ban on collective self-defense.

She added that Tokyo has additionally relaxed rules on exporting arms and has been sending "deadly weapons while claiming it hopes to build a world without nuclear weapons."

According to Mao, "Japan is actually strengthening cooperation on extended deterrence, and even seeking to revise its three non-nuclear principles, to open the door for enabling nuclear sharing arrangements."

China’s response comes after reports that Japan has begun exporting its locally manufactured Patriot surface-to-air missile interceptors to the United States for the first time since restrictions were loosened earlier this week, as reported by a news agency, citing individuals familiar with the development.
