UN Chief Set to Join Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt
"The Secretary-General is traveling to Egypt to attend on Monday the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit for Peace. He is expected back at UN Headquarters on Wednesday," the Office of the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General said in a brief statement to reporters.
The summit, scheduled for Monday in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, aims to finalize an international agreement to bring an end to the war in Gaza, the Egyptian Presidency announced.
According to the presidency, the high-level meeting will be co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump, and will convene leaders from more than 20 nations. The gathering seeks to forge a path toward regional peace, bolster stability efforts, and initiate a new era of Middle East security.
The summit comes amid growing global pressure to de-escalate the conflict and prevent further humanitarian fallout.
