Python gets freed from electric fence in South Africa
(MENAFN) A python trapped in an electric clear-vu fence at a confidential conservation site in South Africa was successfully rescued last week through a coordinated effort involving security teams, technicians, a snake rescuer, and a veterinarian.
The large snake became entangled while attempting to pass through the fence, triggering the alarm system. Security personnel were first to respond. One officer took quick initiative, retrieving sticks from the bush to wedge the electric wires off the snake.
“Clever thinking,” said Durban-based snake rescuer Nick Evans.
Additional security staff soon arrived, though efforts were stalled until technicians reached the scene and cut power to the fence. Evans and veterinarian Dr. Carla Goede were also en route, concerned they might be too late, as electric fencing often proves fatal to pythons.
Fortunately, by the time they arrived, the python had already been freed thanks to the prompt teamwork of security and technicians.
“At first, we were delighted with this good news. However, we then saw the state of the python; he was lifeless,” Evans said.
Despite the initial relief, the snake showed no signs of life, prompting an urgent medical response, including CPR. The rescue highlighted both the dangers posed by such fencing and the dedication of those protecting wildlife.
