Colombian National Gets Sentenced in Russia
In addition to the prison term, he has been ordered to pay a fine of 1 million rubles (around USD12,700).
The Investigative Committee of Russia revealed the court’s decision on Tuesday, detailing the charges against Boorghes, which include mercenary activity, terrorist involvement, unauthorized border entry, weapons smuggling, and illegal firearm possession.
Investigators reported that Boorghes voluntarily enlisted in Ukraine’s 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade in late 2024, subsequently engaging in an operation that crossed the border with the intent to destabilize the Sudzhansky District of Kursk.
The Committee stated that he took part in coordinated efforts aimed at threatening the civilian population, damaging infrastructure, and interfering with local governance.
Russian troops apprehended Boorghes near the village of Alexandria amid combat with Ukrainian forces.
Officials mentioned that he confessed to the charges during preliminary legal proceedings.
As outlined in the ruling, Boorghes will serve the initial five years of his sentence in a standard prison facility, with the remainder to be spent in a high-security correctional colony.
Furthermore, the state has seized over 230,000 rubles (about USD2,900) from him as forfeiture.
