Musk’s 'real' father says both sides must compromise

(MENAFN) Errol Musk recently commented on the ongoing public disagreement between his son, Elon Musk—the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX—and US President Donald Trump, suggesting to reporters in Moscow that reconciliation might still be achievable.

The feud, which involves two figures once considered close allies, intensified last week amid controversy over Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful” tax and spending legislation. Elon Musk, who had recently stepped down as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), had been a vocal critic of the bill, arguing that it undermines his mission to reduce excessive government spending. On Thursday, Musk accused Trump of “ingratitude,” supported calls for his impeachment, and even threatened to suspend the US space program by grounding the Dragon spacecraft.

Trump responded by accusing Musk of having “gone crazy,” attributing their fallout to the termination of the so-called “EV mandate,” which referred to federal incentives that had previously benefited Tesla. In revenge, Musk posted (and later deleted) a controversial message linking Trump to the late financier and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Speaking with journalists at a tech forum in Moscow on Monday, Errol Musk indicated that his son’s passionate stance was driven by his principles, but he also hinted at the possibility of compromise.

“I think Elon might agree to step down a little … because he’s basically standing up for his principles,” Errol Musk remarked.

He explained that Elon initially supported the Trump administration expecting a reduction in government spending, and the subsequent policy shift left him disappointed as it contradicted the values he believed in.

The 79-year-old Musk noted that politics often demands flexibility and long-term strategic thinking.

“In politics, sometimes you have to spend money on products you have yet to make, because that money later helps increase production. It’s the laws of economics,” Errol Musk said.

He suggested that both parties might now be approaching the dispute with more maturity, leaving open the possibility of a future easing in tensions.
