Law enforcement murders criminal group members in Haiti
The operation, which lasted 48 hours, involved strikes on multiple neighborhoods under gang control. Reports indicate that in addition to those killed, many others were wounded during the coordinated actions.
While officials have not yet released a formal statement, the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights confirmed that the police raids took place. Sources also suggest that law enforcement activities remain ongoing across several areas.
Haiti has been grappling with a deepening security crisis, with heavily armed gangs exerting influence over large swaths of the country. Violence has surged in recent months, overwhelming local authorities and destabilizing daily life.
According to data from the United Nations Integrated Office for Haiti, the first quarter of this year saw 1,617 people killed and another 580 injured due to violence. These incidents involved armed gangs, local militias, unarmed civilians, and security forces.
The latest operation marks one of the deadliest recent escalations in Haiti’s struggle to combat gang violence.
