Trump claims he would forgive Musk

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump says he may forgive Elon Musk following a highly publicized dispute between the two, sparked by disagreements over a key administration policy.

The falling-out began last week when Musk, who had recently stepped down as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), strongly criticized Trump’s signature tax and spending initiative, which the president has labeled his “Big Beautiful” bill. Musk claimed the legislation undermined his efforts to cut federal waste and called out Trump for what he described as “ingratitude.”

In the heat of the dispute, Musk backed calls for Trump’s impeachment and even threatened to ground the Dragon spacecraft, which supports the US space program. Trump responded by accusing Musk of having “gone crazy,” suggesting the clash was due to the end of federal electric vehicle subsidies that had long benefited Tesla. Musk fired back with a now-deleted social media post linking Trump to the late Jeffrey Epstein.

In a Wednesday interview with the New York Post, Trump said he harbored no lasting resentment. “I have no hard feelings. But I was really surprised that that happened,” he said, expressing disappointment in Musk’s reaction to the bill, which he described as “phenomenal.” When asked if he could forgive Musk, Trump replied, “I guess I could,” emphasizing his current focus on fixing the country.

Just hours before the interview aired, Musk appeared to soften his stance, writing on X that he regretted “some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week,” admitting they “went too far.” Although he didn’t specify which posts he meant, media outlets reported ongoing behind-the-scenes efforts by Musk’s team and the White House to mend the rift.

Trump responded to the apology positively in a follow-up call with the Post, saying, “I thought it was very nice that he (Musk) did that.”
