Israel systematically targets communication in Gaza to numb international anger
The authority issued a statement on Thursday confirming that the latest wave of strikes has intensified Gaza's digital isolation. It described the attacks as part of a "systematic targeting" campaign against vital infrastructure, claiming repeated efforts to restore connectivity or reroute damaged lines have been blocked or rendered ineffective.
Reports indicate that the central and southern regions of Gaza have now lost all communications, joining Gaza City and the northern areas in a full-scale blackout for the second consecutive day.
Officials warned that the destruction of telecommunications systems risks cutting Gaza off from the outside world entirely. The authority highlighted that this blackout impedes emergency assistance, healthcare coordination, journalistic reporting, and educational access, compounding the humanitarian crisis.
Since October 2023, the Israeli military has carried out a relentless campaign in Gaza, reportedly resulting in the deaths of over 55,100 Palestinians, with a significant proportion being women and children. Despite growing global pressure for a ceasefire, Israeli operations have continued unabated.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israel is also facing legal proceedings at the International Court of Justice, where it stands accused of committing acts of genocide against civilians in the enclave.
