Indian DM states country shocked at Pakistan’s new UN counter-terrorism part
Singh pointed out that Pakistan’s territory has served as a safe haven for global terrorist groups, with figures like Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar operating openly and senior military officials reportedly attending terrorists’ funerals. He criticized the decision to place Pakistan in a leadership role against terrorism, calling it a troubling sign for the intentions of the international community.
The announcement comes amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, who have fought four wars since independence in 1947. The recent conflict erupted after India’s May 7 airstrikes on militant targets in Pakistan-administered territory, which were launched in retaliation for a deadly terrorist attack in India’s Jammu and Kashmir region in April.
Singh urged the global community to stop funding Pakistan, arguing that such financial support fuels terrorism infrastructure. He called for coordinated diplomatic, economic, and strategic pressure on Pakistan to take real action against terrorism and even suggested Pakistan could seek India’s help if it is unable to control militancy within its borders. Singh reaffirmed India’s military readiness to conduct counter-terror operations across the border if necessary.
