Oregon Shuts Down Interstate as Wildfire Erupts

(MENAFN) Authorities in Oregon have shut down nearly 32 kilometers of Interstate 84 due to a wildfire that severely reduced visibility, according to reports from U.S. media on Thursday.

The Oregon Department of Transportation confirmed that I-84 is closed between Hood River and The Dalles. Photographs released by the agency depicted flames burning along the highway’s median and edges, with wind gusts spreading thick smoke across the area.

In response to the blaze, the Wasco County Sheriff's Office issued a level 3 evacuation order, directing residents to leave the affected zone immediately.

More than 700 homes located northwest of The Dalles along the interstate and further inland have been evacuated. Additionally, residents in over 1,350 homes, including parts of the town’s northern area, were advised to prepare for possible evacuation.

The wildfire, which ignited on Wednesday, has grown to approximately 50 acres in size.
