Trump Says He Might Forgive Musk for Dissing His ‘Phenomenal’ Bill

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has indicated he may be open to forgiving Elon Musk, following a heated rift that erupted after the Tesla CEO fiercely criticized a cornerstone of the Trump administration’s economic agenda.

Once allies, the relationship between Trump and Musk soured dramatically last week after Musk publicly condemned the president’s so-called “Big Beautiful” tax and spending package. Musk, who had recently resigned as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), claimed the bill derailed his initiatives aimed at reducing federal waste.

During the escalating feud, Musk accused Trump of “ingratitude,” endorsed impeachment efforts, and threatened to halt the US space program by grounding the Dragon spacecraft.
Trump retaliated by saying Musk had “gone crazy” and attributed the fallout to the termination of the 'EV mandate'—federal subsidies that had notably benefited Tesla. In response, Musk posted, then quickly deleted, a message on social media linking Trump to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Speaking to a news outlet in an interview released Wednesday, Trump stated, “I have no hard feelings. But I was really surprised that that happened.” He defended the legislation as “phenomenal” and voiced disappointment in Musk’s reaction, saying, “When he did that, I was not a happy camper.”

When asked whether reconciliation was possible, Trump responded, “I guess I could,” adding that his focus was now on how to “straighten out the country.”

Just hours prior to the interview’s publication, Musk appeared to express regret over his recent outbursts. In a post on X, he acknowledged that he regrets “some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week,” admitting, “They went too far.”

Musk did not specify which posts he was referring to, though various media outlets have reported that intermediaries from both Musk’s circle and the White House are engaged in behind-the-scenes efforts to de-escalate the situation.

In a follow-up phone call with the news outlet on Wednesday morning, Trump reacted to Musk’s statement by saying, “I thought it was very nice that he (Musk) did that.”
