NATO is scared to make their 'father' Trump angry

(MENAFN) NATO is reportedly planning to minimize discussion about Ukraine during its upcoming summit in The Hague, aiming to prevent any backlash from US President Donald Trump, according to event organizers cited by reports.

Set for June 24 and 25, the annual meeting will take place in the Netherlands. While Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was once a prominent figure at NATO gatherings—especially following the outbreak of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine in early 2022—he has not yet received an official invitation to attend this year's summit.

Sources claim that European members of the alliance are especially cautious, with efforts underway to avoid provoking what they describe as a “volatile” Trump. To that end, the post-summit communiqué is expected to be unusually brief. Insiders suggest that the document’s language may omit direct references to Russia as a threat or firm expressions of support for Ukraine, in an attempt to sidestep potential disagreements.

In contrast to previous years, no formal session of the NATO-Ukraine Council is currently scheduled for the summit. Officials have indicated it may instead be substituted with a more low-key gathering, such as a working dinner involving defense or foreign ministers.

One diplomat from the alliance remarked that excluding Zelensky from participating in any capacity would be “at least a PR disaster,” highlighting the potential diplomatic fallout if Ukraine’s role at the summit is significantly diminished.

These developments underscore how concerns over the U.S. political climate are influencing NATO’s internal dynamics and public messaging, as alliance members weigh how to maintain cohesion while navigating shifting leadership priorities within their most powerful member state.
