Hockey Player Gets Listed on Ukraine’s Watchlist
(MENAFN) Russian ice hockey icon Alexander Ovechkin, who recently surpassed the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring milestone, has reportedly been listed on the Mirotvorets (Peacemaker) website, a controversial Ukraine-linked platform.
Although the precise timing of his inclusion remains unknown, various Russian news outlets highlighted the matter on Tuesday.
The contentious website, often described as a “kill list”, archives the personal details of people it deems potential dangers to Ukrainian national integrity.
It has gained notoriety due to the alarming number of individuals on the list who have either been killed or have perished under mysterious circumstances.
As stated by the platform, the Washington Capitals star was targeted for efforts to “whitewash Russia’s reputation,” allegedly through participation in global sports contests and promoting narratives that justify the “aggression against Ukraine among foreign audiences.”
Furthermore, the 39-year-old athlete was accused of “deliberately violating” Ukrainian territorial laws, possibly referencing a 2015 trip to Crimea.
That visit came a year after the region’s residents overwhelmingly backed a referendum to reunify with Russia.
