Musk backs ‘Trump should be impeached’

(MENAFN) Elon Musk has publicly stated that US President Donald Trump should be impeached and suggested forming a new political party to better represent mainstream Americans. The remarks came amid a heated exchange between the two figures over Trump’s recently passed federal tax and spending bill.

The dispute spilled onto social media on Thursday, with Musk accusing Trump of “ingratitude” and claiming that without his support, Trump would have lost the election. “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House, and the Republicans would be 51–49 in the Senate,” Musk wrote.

When conservative blogger Ian Miles Cheong posted on X that Trump should be impeached and replaced by Senator JD Vance, Musk simply replied, “Yes.”

Musk also launched a poll on X, asking his 220 million followers if it was time to form a new political party to represent “the 80% in the middle.” Within four hours, around three million users responded, with approximately 81% in favor.

Trump responded on Truth Social, accusing Musk of going “crazy” after he revoked the electric vehicle mandate, which he claimed Musk had known about for months. Trump also argued that cutting Musk’s government subsidies and contracts would be the fastest way to save “billions and billions” in federal spending.

Musk, who recently resigned as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has stepped up his criticism of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” calling it a “pork-filled disgusting abomination” that would trap the country in “debt slavery.” The House has already passed the bill, and Trump plans to sign it into law by July 4, pending Senate approval.
