Russian drone assault causes injuries, deaths in Ukraine

(MENAFN) Ukraine announced on Wednesday that a Russian drone strike overnight on Kharkiv city caused the deaths of at least three individuals and left around 60 others wounded.

According to a statement by the regional governor, “in the city of Kharkiv, two people died, 60 people were injured, including nine children aged 2 to 15,” with a subsequent update confirming that one of the injured later succumbed to their wounds.

The governor noted that the assault targeted Kharkiv’s Slobidskyi and Osnovianskyi neighborhoods, stating that about 15 drones were launched by Russian forces.

Damage assessments included harm to nine apartment buildings, three private homes, thirteen vehicles, and a factory.

Separately, the city’s mayor provided a timeline for the attack, saying it occurred between 00:31 and 00:40 local time, with emergency responders and volunteers actively engaged in relief efforts.

Ukraine’s Air Force later shared that its air defenses successfully intercepted 49 out of 85 drones deployed during the strike.

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city located approximately 30 kilometers from the Russian border, has faced frequent air attacks throughout the ongoing conflict.

No immediate response was issued by Russian officials regarding these claims.
