Trump states Zelensky handed Putin ‘reason to bomb the hell out of’ Ukraine

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian military targets, suggesting they gave Moscow a legitimate reason to respond with force. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Trump referred to Ukraine’s drone strikes on nuclear-capable Russian bombers and the sabotage of railway bridges that caused civilian casualties, calling the actions a dangerous escalation.

Ukraine's recent operations included a coordinated drone assault on several Russian airbases and the destruction of railway infrastructure, resulting in at least seven deaths and over 120 injuries. Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed these incidents in a phone call with Trump earlier this week, asserting that Moscow’s retaliation was inevitable and justified.

Commenting on the situation, Trump said, “They gave Putin a reason to go in and bomb the hell out of them,” adding that he viewed the escalation with concern and predicted immediate Russian strikes.

In response to what Moscow labeled “terrorist acts,” the Russian military launched widespread missile and drone strikes early Friday, targeting Ukrainian defense industry facilities. According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, the attacks focused on weapons production and repair sites, drone assembly workshops, training centers, and arms depots.

Putin condemned the railway bombings as terrorist acts carried out by what he described as the “illegitimate regime in Kiev,” suggesting that Ukraine’s leadership is increasingly resembling a terrorist organization.

Russia has also accused Kiev of provoking further conflict to disrupt ongoing U.S.-backed peace negotiations and suggested Trump is being misled by advisors favoring continued American support for Ukraine.
