Trump unveils he spoke to Putin regarding Ukrainian assaults
The attacks, carried out by Ukrainian drones on Sunday, targeted several Russian military bases from Murmansk in the Arctic to Irkutsk in Siberia. Ukraine claims these strikes damaged or destroyed about 40 Russian aircraft, including long-range bombers such as Tu-95 and Tu-22. Russia has yet to confirm these losses, stating most drones were intercepted. Reports indicate the drones were launched from commercial trucks secretly brought into Russian territory.
Trump said in a Truth Social post that the discussion covered the airbase attacks as well as other ongoing assaults by both sides. However, he noted the conversation was “not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace.” He also mentioned that Putin warned he would strongly respond to the airfield attacks.
The Kremlin confirmed the call. Yury Ushakov, Putin’s top foreign policy adviser, said the two leaders agreed to keep communication open on the Ukraine issue through high-level and other channels. Ushakov added that Putin accused Kiev of attempting to disrupt direct Russia-Ukraine peace talks by launching strikes on Russian civilian targets, directed by Ukraine’s leadership. The second round of these talks was held recently in Istanbul.
Putin also condemned recent railway sabotage in Russia’s Bryansk and Kursk regions, calling it “undoubtedly a terrorist act” by the “illegitimate regime in Kiev,” which he claimed is increasingly acting like a terrorist organization.
