Russia Reports Missing Plane was Found Far East
Yevgeny Perfilyev, the Minister for Ecology, Nature Management, and Forestry in Russia's Sakha Republic, confirmed the news on Telegram, stating, “The plane has been found, everyone is alive.”
This announcement followed a tense search operation initiated after the aircraft disappeared from radar.
Earlier reports from a state-run news outlet indicated that the Antonov An-2 had triggered its emergency beacon while “flying in the interests of forest protection” over the Tomponsky district.
The aircraft had gone missing during this environmental monitoring mission.
The Tomponsky district, located in the eastern expanse of the Sakha Republic within Siberia, is known for its remote and rugged landscape.
The area features extensive mountain ranges and thick woodlands, making search operations particularly challenging.
The news outlet also noted that Rosaviatsia, Russia’s federal civil aviation body, coordinated the search-and-rescue mission.
Their efforts focused on locating the plane and ensuring the safety of the five individuals it carried.
