North Korea Initiates New Ballistic Missile Test
(MENAFN) On Thursday, North Korea discharged several short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, according to military officials from South Korea.
This activity marks the regime's initial missile test since March, as reported by a news agency.
The projectiles are reported to have traveled as far as 800 kilometers (497 miles) before splashing into the sea.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) observed the launch, which they stated "likely" involved multiple short-range ballistic missiles, originating from the eastern coastal city of Wonsan around 8:10 a.m. local time (2310 GMT on Wednesday).
In an official release, the JCS announced, "Our military has bolstered surveillance against an additional launch and maintains a full readiness posture while closely sharing information on the North's ballistic missiles with the United States and Japan."
This statement underscores the heightened vigilance and ongoing cooperation among allied forces.
This recent test follows a similar incident on March 10, when Pyongyang launched multiple ballistic missiles in response to the start of annual joint military drills between South Korea and the United States.
