Russia Insists on Agreements with Ukraine
During a press briefing in Moscow, Peskov reiterated that Kyiv’s "excuses and justifications" for refusing to proceed with the exchange of prisoners of war and fallen soldiers' remains were not credible.
Peskov emphasized that Ukraine had offered numerous "excuses and justifications," but these were unlikely to be convincing.
Moscow accused Kyiv of obstructing the agreed-upon exchange of war prisoners and soldiers' bodies from the Istanbul negotiations held last week, asserting that the initial exchange was supposed to take place on June 7.
In response, Ukraine claimed it decided to delay the prisoner swap until the following week and had not yet determined a date for the transfer of bodies.
Peskov refrained from commenting on Kyiv's allegation that the timing of the last exchange had not been mutually agreed upon, and that Russia had unilaterally chosen it.
He encouraged reporters to "listen carefully again" to statements made by Vladimir Medinsky, the head of Russia's negotiation team with Ukraine, as Medinsky had already addressed all relevant queries.
The Kremlin spokesperson suggested waiting until early next week to evaluate "how the other side's position will evolve."
When asked if Russia had sought assistance from international organizations to facilitate the transfer of fallen servicemen's bodies, Peskov responded with a firm "no."
